Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities in federally funded schools at all levels.  Allows an institution to resolve complaints of discrimination without the need of involvement by outside entities, such as the Federal government.

Every college and university in the country is required by the Department of Education to have a campus Title IX Coordinator, and to designate that individual to the department and campus community as a contact point for a Title IX communications and grievances.
